Are You Ready for Some Football?!

After 5 long, tedious months of negotiations and selfish ego boosting, the NFLPA has unanimously accepted the 10 year deal offered by the NFL owners. They now have 2 weeks to complete transactions that would usually take 4 months to execute.

I've been a fan of football for years, but I was never aware of the technicalities and logistics concerning contractual agreements, salary caps, free agency, draft procedures and all other business related methods that occur off the field, behind the scenes. I thought I knew all there was to know about rules, penalties and violations. But, this lockout revealed plenty.

The NFL functions as a system of greed. Athletes get paid to play a game and owners get paid based on their ability to produce a successful outcome. A tit for tat philosophy with no means for equality. No matter how fair this new lockout agreement appears to be, money is still the root of all evil.

However, we can finally get ready for some football...

Let's Go Jags!

"Thank" Before You Plank

Plank Beds

This whole planking craze is...

crazy...

ridiculous...

disrespectful...

just plain stupid!

We are obviously a generation that has become obsessed with following trends.

However, this trend is NOT cool at all.

According to my research, planking originated when ships departed Europe for African markets with manufactured goods, which were traded for purchased or kidnapped Africans, who were transported across the Atlantic as slaves. The slaves were then sold or traded for raw materials. They were stored on ships, chained and attached to “plank” beds. They were forced to lay face down with their arms by their side and their wrists chained to their waist. Some were even stacked on top of each other with no room to move. They were exposed to each other's bodily fluids and filthy excretions. Many of them died from dehydration and disease. Furthermore, painful and cruel suicide attempts occurred on a daily basis. Once the ship reached the New World, enslaved survivors were sold in the Caribbean or the American colonies.

A similar form of planking has recently surfaced, with no regard to where or how the actual act began. Today's form of planking is argued to be a harmless and humorous lying down game. Participants place their bodies in or on a peculiar object and post a photo of their unique "plank" online for all to see. Sounds innocent right? Makes one wonder how this watered-down version even became popular. Apparently, back in May, a 20-year-old man made headlines when he plunged to his death after reportedly "planking" on a seventh-floor balcony in Australia. The fact that this seemingly safe act has fatal bearing should raise red flags for those who have been ignorant (see footer quote) enough to participate. Celebrities included.
